Subject: [IML] quest:new pic opinion - blast and spiral
I have finished a new picture and would appreciate some opinions
<< You will find the pic in the IIB/Threads/Additional-Directory >>
Also I have two questions. I was having trouble using the blast texture.
Basically, no matter what I did the center color was coming out black.

I havn't used the blast texture with any color other then the
default, so I can't answer that.
Also, there appears to be a blue rent in my road in the blast area. Why?

The blue is showing through from you ground which looks like thick
fog covered wetlands, with bumps. Somehow you have infected that part
of the road with some transparency, perhaps part of the blast is
causing the transparency?
The road is a roughened bent plane with stripes applied down the center. It
is an object with states and now as I type this I wonder if that had
something to do with it.

Shouldn't
Hmmm.... Also, I originally was going to use a
spiral - courtesy of Darran's wonderful little program - for the beam from
the sky but my fire texture wants to follow the z-axis which of course
doesn't follow a spiral. I finally gave up. This crazy picture got out of
hand as I made the whole thing as a grouped object in the detail editor and
never made it to the stage editor. I was just playing with a few things
which got out of hand. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I like your column of fire with the wrap around smoke, a very nice
job. Also liked your sky.

I would have thought the center should be anything but black as the colors I
chose in the blast texture are bright - orange, red, etc. I thought it
might be related to states so I tried applying the texture and tacking it to
the bent state. I can't apply it to the default state because I can't
locate the specific portion to apply it to until it is bent. If this sounds
confusing it is because I am seriously confused.

It appears to me that all the black area of the blast texture are transparant.
Do you have the genlock button checked on that texture? Black is usually the
color that is transparent when genlocked, so I'd suspect that is the problem.
Other than that, it's really a nice picture, with a lot of interesting stuff
in it. I really like the flame beam.
